Police are conducting a search for a missing person in the Shanklin area tonight (Friday).
A number of officers are currently sweeping the Esplanade in a bid to locate the high-risk individual.
Details have not yet been released by the authorities as to the age or gender of the missing person.
A short while ago officers, including a dog handler, were present in the Green Lane area of the town.
UPDATE @ 22:47 – HM Coastguard have now joined the search with officers from Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team on scene.
WightSAR – the Island’s volunteer lowland search and rescue team – have also been called out. They were deployed at 22:30.
UPDATE @ 22:55 – Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has hit the water and is assisting the search operation from the water.
A large number of search and rescue personnel are now present at Shanklin Esplanade alongside a growing number of Police officers.
UPDATE @ 23:30 – It has been confirmed that the missing person has now been found.
The positive news came in just minutes after the National Police Air Service helicopter was tasked from Bournemouth. The crew has since stood down and returned to base.
The missing man is now being taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
All search resources are now standing down, although Coastguard teams are responding to a new tasking elsewhere.
