The National Police Air Service (NPAS) Helicopter from Bournemouth has been called in to assist local Police in the search for a missing person tonight (Sunday).
Officers on the ground are currently conducting a search between Sandown and Shanklin with the assistance of HM Coastguard.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team have both been mobilised to the area alongside Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
Island Echo initially had reports of multiple police units responding to The Bay area at around 19:00.
WightSAR – the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team – have been called out with volunteers now also assisting with the wide scale search.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue an appeal.
UPDATE @ 21:25 – The NPAS helicopter has relocated to Ventnor, with Police units also seen heading in that direction.
The search continues.
UPDATE @ 22:05 – The missing individual has been successfully located in Ventnor, it has been confirmed.
Police and Coastguard teams have relocated to the Flowersbrook area having initially launched their search in Shanklin.
The NPAS Helicopter has departed and has now returned to Bournemouth after around 45 minutes of searching.

Went down to Wheelers Bay at about 7:30 this evening to have a look at the moon, there was someone with a head torch on down on the beach itself on their own, assumed it was a photographer. Hope the person is found soon ❤️
