A crash on a roundabout in Bembridge this afternoon (Thursday) has led to a call out for a large number of emergency service crews.
Emergency services were first called not long after 13:15. The incident, believed to be a road traffic collision, has occurred on the roundabout where Sandown Road, Mill Road, Steyne Road and Hillway Road all meet.
The incident has seen a VW Polo and another VW T-Cross collide with one another whilst both were attempting to cross.
A large amount of emergency service personnel including the Operational Commander and Enhanced Care Paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene alongside 1 pumping appliance from Ryde.
It is believed that no serious injuries have been sustained.
Island Echo understands that the road remains open apart from traffic wishing to head down Mill Road – where 1 of the stricken vehicles has been left.
Some emergency service vehicles have already begun to stand down from the scene.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that 1 casualty has been taken to hospital as a precaution.
They sustained minor injuries.

Did the Bembridge fire engine attend?
The visibility on that roundabout is very poor.
why so many emergency services it was just a little bump all a bit OTT then it is the isle of Wight
Interesting point, Bob. Would the same OTT reaction have occurred on the mainland, or would they have been too busy? It seems to happen a lot here and I don’t remember this level of reaction in my home town of Portsmouth. Polite note to the editor: Given the frequency of apparently over-the-top reactions to apparently minor Road Traffic Incidents, would an article looking at what exactly happens sequentially when a report comes make interesting reading?,
Well your reading and commenting so it got you interest didn’t it
Dangerous roundabout as cannot see oncoming traffic – and this is without the proposed 56 then 130 additional houses they want to build next to this roundabout. Extraordinarily, Island Roads stated that the 56 houses would only ‘add 29 additional journeys a day’ !!
Yet fine to build thousands of homes in Ryde with overcrowded roundabout and junctions.
Of course it is just coincidence that the most prolific developers live in Bembridge and yet development is limited their.
Your cosy world too will be effected unless you reinstate the toll road to allow only the ‘perceived’ better people into the expanding village
Erratum before the better people dismiss my view as used THEIR instead of THERE.
Yes totally correct well done catch22
Glad all is ok but seriously all those emergency workers ect all for 2 cars broberly doing 5 mile max on that roundabout
“A large amount of emergency service personnel including the Operational Commander and Enhanced Care Paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene alongside 1 pumping appliance from Ryde”.
“Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that 1 casualty has been taken to hospital as a precaution”
Was it absolutely necessary to send a “large amount” of emergency service personnel” from Newport and Ryde etc?
Was that really a good use of their precious time?
That’s why all vehicles should slow down approaching any kind of crossing . Many times I’ve approached a roundabout and started to go and then out of nowhere a car has sped across without looking or slowing down. Granted give way to left but we’re not on a speedway and if they approach after a car has started to go then slow down and wait although it seems to me lately that’s what a lot of drivers think they are on a speedway over here .
You give way to traffic coming from the right or turning right.
Some people here don’t even know the high way code……. you give way to your right!!!!!
A re take off your test is needed if you think you give way to your left at roundabouts this tells me you are an island driver.
