Officers are currently in attendance at The Fishbourne Inn where their enquiries have led them to seal off a gravel car park. They arrived on scene sometime around 11:30.
It is thought that the immediate area will cordoned off for several hours. However, the pub remains open as normal and access is being maintained to all properties.
UPDATE @ 17:27 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 17-year-old teenage boy has been flown to Southampton General Hospital with a head injury.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He is being questioned by officers and remains in Police custody tonight.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We are carrying out enquiries following a serious assault off Fishbourne Lane.
“A 17 year-old boy has been taken to Southampton General Hospital to be treated for a head injury following the assault, which is believed to have taken place between 3.40am and 4.30am. The boy’s condition is described as serious, but stable.
“An 18 year-old man from Cowes has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody at this time.”

UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have confirmed that the 18-year-old male arrested yesterday has been released without charge, but remains under investigation.
The 17-year-old teen remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
