UPDATED: Police are investigating reports of suspicious behaviour in Newport, which has sparked assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter tonight (Friday)
The Bournemouth-based helicopter is currently circling the Pan area of Newport.
UPDATE @ 23:36 – Several Police officers, including a local dog unit, are in attendance in the Nunnery Lane area of Carisbrooke tonight.
The NPAS helicopter has now left the vicinity and returned to Bournemouth.
UPDATE SATURDAY – 3 men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed.
A 31-year-old man from Sandown, a 29-year-old man from Godshill and a 27-year-old man from Newchurch have all been arrested and questioned.
Police have not commented on where the men were arrested, although they have confirmed officers were called to Watergate Road at 09:25.
Editor’s footnote: It was initially reported that officers were pursuing a red pick-up in Gunville, however it has since come to light that the vehicle had in fact been stopped.
It has been confirmed that the pick-up was not involved in the incident at Watergate Road, which happened to occur at around the same time just a mile or 2 away.
