PODIUM FINISHES FOR RYDE HARRIERS DAN AND TRISH AT MAINLAND EVENTS

A pair of Ryde Harriers enjoyed podium finishes at events on the mainland recently. Continuing his fine run of form on the track and on the road, Ryde Harrier Dan Eckersley competed in the South of England Championships over his favourite track distance the 3000m Steeplechase. In a very tight race Dan was chasing down leader Lewis Harknett from Orion Harriers but unfortunately twisted awkwardly on landing over the last water barrier causing severe pain to his Achilles tendon. After regaining his momentum Dan bravely attempted to finish the race and was enthusiastically cheered on by the capacity crowd at the Thames Valley Stadium crossed the line in a time of 9min 59.40 sec to earn his place on the podium to receive his South of England bronze medal. Elsewhere, Ryde Harrier Trish Train competing in an England qualifying race finished an excellent 3rd place in her age group to secure another slot to represent her country again over the half marathon distance. Trish travelled to the Great Western Run in Bristol to compete in a very large field and her Women’s 55 to 59 years age category finished in the excellent time of 1 hour 38min 49sec. Trish will now wait for the confirmation of the venue for the Home International.
