Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Donna Jones and Island MP Bob Seely are joining forces to host a public meeting to inform Islanders about plans to reduce crime across the Isle of Wight.
The meeting will be an opportunity for Islanders to hear about the latest work being undertaken by the PCC and ask questions about the Police and Crime Plan More Police Safer Streets and other crime-related issues on the Island.
The PCC will be providing updates on action being taken to tackle anti-social behaviour, police recruitment, the new roads policing unit, how to report crime, plus the new policing model for the force – which will bring officers closer to their communities.
Islanders will also have an opportunity to raise any crime-related issues with the PCC and their Member of Parliament.
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones said:
“I’m delighted Bob has invited me to his public meeting. This is an opportunity for residents to raise any concerns they have about the safety of their neighbourhood directly with me.
“It is also a chance for me to explain the initiatives I am funding to reduce crime and ASB on the Island, and how I am working with the force to strengthen neighbourhood policing, bring back ‘Local Bobbies’ and ensure victims of crime get the service they deserve.”
Mr Seely said:
“This event is an opportunity for Islanders to learn more about what we’re doing, as their elected representatives, to keep people safe on the Isle of Wight.
“It’s also an opportunity for Islanders to come and talk to us about anything police and crime-related on the Island they wish to raise. We would love Islanders to share positive experiences with us as well.
“We hope the event will be informative and that people will find it useful.”
The meeting will be held on Friday 30th June at 18:00 at Newport Congregational Church in Pyle Street.

Safer streets that’s a joke we have been paying our taxes for years for safer streets have we had it ? No !!!! When was the last time you saw the police on the streets ? Let me know if you think the same
Justice outside IOW Festival last time I saw one, guess the rest are in the office on standby . But Fear not …. the PCC and Pop up Bob will talk about it .. then nowt .. .
What’s the betting they want more money from our council taxes
Don’t quote me but I think atm it 2 for each big town. Kinda busy in Newport so see vans etc around, seen it for myself them chancing a young lad, slammed to the ground n hand cuffed.. ; )
Nice to see following in the example / meeting by KAREN LUCIONI.
Ah my two favourite me me me’s .. and They are not my two elected representatives !!
Dream on .. both love the camera .. but deliver nothing for islanders
Obviously a new soap-box initiative for Silent Seedy to try and get some (hopefully believed) credibility back from all his recent pathetic contradictions and mistakes. Yes, I totally agree with you ‘Justice’
Well there we have it, just by seeing these two timewasters we all know it is a lot of hot air, and a PR stunt by sausage bob. More police, would be a good idea, but there are very few real police stations on the island left. Just bob trying to entice people to vote for him in the next election, fat chance of that, the tories are finished.
I was talking to Donna the other day and we agreed that we would combine to form a new superhero to fight crime: Blob Jonesly. We’ll wear our underwear outside our clothes and fight crime from the safety of our offices. God forbid we should actually come into contact with any real criminals.
Love ypu sausage Bobby
If you want safer streets, curfew the feral brats and scum causing them to be unsafe. Simple
STOP paying people to ‘have’ children, then ONLY wanted ones would be born.
As it is those getting free rent, free council tax, and thousands a year, just for emptying a womb, often don’t really want the child, but the easy life and home that comes with ‘having’ a child.
So more troubled unloved, unwanted troubled children are born, who, as we see now, have a ‘child’ of their own from puberty to ensure the next generation has more trouble, more expense and a more vile society to live amongst.
Cut tax credits, universal credits free rent and c tax, THEN see ‘how many’ Muvers still ‘want’ a child they can’t afford.
All you say here is so true. This must be the only country in Europe that pays free hand outs of more than a workman takes home, to a load of snorting swilling smack heads to buy all their crap with, then gives them a free home to breed a deliberate brat in each year, and then gives them even more free hand outs NOT to work. Then the pensioners and disabled get THEIR money cut, and working families taxed more and charged more on NI contributions to top up the free loaders pot.
It’s B’stard Isle
I have never seen a place with so many children having children and
unmarried Mums.
Its no wonder the island is in a mess.
Well, that’s utter garbage.
The birth rate on the Island has fallen dramatically. That’s why they wanted to close primary schools.
Indeed, with the number of working age people on the Island is falling while the number of geriatrics is increasing rapidly, I’d be more worried about who is going to be changing your adult nappy in a few years time.
Almost certainly going to be from overseas.
Enjoy 😉
They have kids for a lot of reasons, many of them pretty stupid (their mate had one, forgot to take precautions, just plain wanted a baby, etc). Very few do it for the money.
Cut the benefits and you will still have as many young mothers unable to afford their offspring. The difference is they will be taken into care, which costs £100k a year.
Or the parents will turn to crime.
All of which will cost the taxpayer and society more than the benefits currently do.
But, hey, at least you get to see them suffer, so worth the actual cost, eh?
Here here. Well said. The scum just go on to breed and produce more scum. Society has to deal with them. The tax payer had to keep them. So wrong. Get them off the free handouts and into work. It’s about time they earn a living and start giving back to society, rather than just taking from it!
And who is going to police this curfew?
The police that we keep getting screwed more and more for every time there is a council tax hike but do F/A should be doing it
Must be an election looming with these sorts of promises.
Vote for an Independent is the only answer
How about removing vehicles that are cluttering up the Roads with NO MOT
Start by removing the White van along Great Preston Road
It’s been parked on the road for over 4 months
Island Roads, Ryde District Steward, IW Council and DVLA, are aware, but between them they could not
Organise a p*ss up in a Brewery.
Same down my Road.
There seems to be no rules on the Island, yet drive 5 mph over the limit
or forget to pay to park along a seafront – you will be fined
The rules don’t make sense.
What is there not to love about this Island.
It is run by useless, clueless individuals!
Does anyone know what a District Steward actually does?
If I were the Ryde District Steward I would whack a sticker on any illegal
vehicle that is parked on a public Road to say we are having it towed away.
Another role the Council could save on.
It’s no wonder our council tax keeps going up we are wasting money on
unnessecary jobs.
Maybe District Stewards don’t carry pens or paper.
The local District Steward is aware of the vehicle in question,
My Uncle emailed him direct a few months ago
STILL NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT!,
absolutely useless.
Incompetency Duplicated !
I’ve never understood the need or benefit to the community of the role of the Police & Crime Commissioner. Indeed, isn’t it the job of the Chief Inspector to implement plans and actions?
Ditch the role and employ two bobbies on the beat. Oh, and not those University swats, but people with logical thinking and common sense like the cop shop used to employ years ago.
Half-a-sausage soundbite “Skippy” Seely strikes again.
His party underfunded the police for years. All of the old hands have departed and now they are trying to replace them with people completely unsuited to the role.
Are people aware that Hampshire constabulary are recruiting online with no interviews or actual evaluation needed in their rush to meet Government targets.
The Government like to publish details of how many new officers they have recruited. They are coy about the number who don’t last more than a month or two.
police recruitment is a joke. You are required to work for FREE as a special for 2 years because they will even consider employing and training you. How on earth do you work for free and support a family?
Cuts police force by half then claims to be “keeping people safe on the Isle of Wight”. Then expects to be elected on ‘increasing the police force’. Can’t claim to increase the police force till we have the numbers back to the level pre tory government.
Tories only know one thing, cut taxes and give the savings to their business mates, attack the poor as they are an easy target.
I wonder if we will be getting a rebate becouse the grass verges are only cut once in a blue moon it’s a right mess !I thought we contributed to this service ?
At quick glance I thought Seely had cuffs on, then I realised
It’s his watch on his arm.
I thought maybe he had been a naughty boy again!
Such a Difference to his late Grandfather Jack
Pathetic. Not long now until a humiliating defeat for conservatives nationwide. Seely has not done one single thing that benefits the majority of islanders, instead he’s only interested in a political career which is about to nosedive into oblivion when his awful party are sacked by the nation. Good riddance.
Bet you any money that the Tories do not lose. They will dangle a pathetic carrot to the dumb populace and they will vote them back in again as usual.
