Tesco stores across the Isle of Wight are no longer stocking Whiskas, Dreamies, Pedigree, IAMS, Sheba and Crave pet products.
Parent company Mars has decided to pull the pet care products from the shelves of Tesco stores, but won’t comment on the exact reasons – but it is thought to be as a result of a row over pricing.
Last week Island Echo reported that Heinz products were no longer being sold in Tesco due to the supermarket giant refusing to bump up the price of household staples such as ketchup and soup.
A spokesperson for Tesco has said:
“With household budgets under increasing pressure, now more than ever we have a responsibility to ensure customers get the best possible value, and we will not pass on unjustifiable price increases to our customers.
“We’re sorry that this means some products aren’t available right now, but we have plenty of alternatives to choose from and we hope to have this issue resolved soon.”

I hate to have to say it but well done Tesco, it is about time someone stood up to the greedy american dominated producers
Was going to comment but totally agree with yours
What? And you seriously think that Tesco are not ripping off the public? Wake up.
SPOT ON
YOU WILL EAT THE BUGS
perhaps tesco should stop trying to act like some moralistic high ground dweller, looking after the little people and simply stock the items.
This has nothing to do with the moral stance they claim to be taking and all to do with the fact that their profits are being squeezed – just pass the increase on – we will decide if we buy it or not.
Tescos bullying suppliers seems to be what’s happening.
The only care they have is mega profit.
And I wouldnt advise you buy tescos own pet food either, it’s full of terrible rubbish. Your furry friend deserves better.
Full of Animals that are killed liked the others – How many tens of thousands of rabbits, and young chicks? how much fish when people around world are starving etc. If you have a cat then many hundreds of other animals will be slaughtered to feed it. At least a dog can be vegetarian now days. Paying more nowadays does not now mean better quality either.
Good, these pet foods are a huge rip off , vulnerable people end up spending more money on kitty food than themselves. All branded items are a con from clothing, food, cars DIY etc the poorest are sucked in by advertising, celebrities etc thinking getting a better product -90% are wrong. I never buy a branded product, and this has made me a Rich poor person ( I own what I have from car to home etc) instead of poor people making the Rich Richer! and having huge debt etc. Try it for cost of Nike trainers you could have 10/15pairs of others, don’t need an expensive iPhone to make this post, just £30 brought outright, capable of flying a space rkt
Shows how greedy the other stores are if they are passing price hike on -bet the co-op will.
Tesco are an appalling organisation.
They run a two-tier pricing policy on the basis of if you have a Tesco Clubcard you can get things cheaper.
Tell you what Tesco, do away with dual pricing and then EVERYONE can benefit from a price reduction!!
Stop playing the ‘moral’ card!! You normally bully your suppliers, now AT LAST, some are fighting back!
If it’s too expensive, shoppers won’t buy it – let THEM choose!
Why don’t you just apply for a ClubCard then? Simples! LOL.
Totally agree, Nick. Their pricing is un-believable. We haven’t been in there for 2 years now-can’t afford their prices !!!
I’m already having to buy Catsan litter elsewhere in bulk as Tescos are charging £7 a bag. Now I’m gonna need to find Sheba elsewhere.
I understand the need to fight these greedy suppliers but my cats dont. I still need to buy it.
Warning. Do not let moggy sit on your lap tonight. You may come to regret it.
Our Cat only eats Prawns and Chicken, too many additives in cheap pet food.
You may save a few pounds, but I will bet that you will end up spending hundreds at a Vet’s once the pets organs starts to fail. That or the carpet will need replacing once covered in immovable dark stains
Penny wise, pound foolish people about.
Last year my dog food was£3-25 p for 6 tins now £5-50 /£5-75 !!!…
Somebody’s making a profit!!!!!
But my dog is happy on the brand I use , other brands give her an upset tum!!!!!
So I have to pay….
A dog is for life ….
Tesco, total hypocrisy as usual. Ok for them to raise their own prices by 300%, but all up in arms when their suppliers eat into their profits. I shop mostly in Lidl, Aldi and Food Warehouse now as I care more about the money in my pocket than snobbery.
My boys, will be very upset, Tesco have not had the fish they like for a while.
“we will not pass on unjustifiable price increases to our customers”
Last week in Tesco, I Paid 99p for a 1ltr bottle of Coke Zero, went to get a bottle today and it was ticketed at £1.60 how is a 60p increase justified. their 12pack own brand dog food tins went from £5.50 to £7.00 again where is the justification in this big increase,
All stores putting prices up in line with costs, but major brands are increasingly putting up cost to retailers so to make more profit for there already rich share holders who aren’t even putting money back into UK. Own brands an UK brand’s are better value and equally nutritional,as pet feeds have to meet higher standard than human!. Yer some pet’s will be fussy same as kid’s but when hungry soon cope – food is food and I feel for those vulnerable and elderly who will prioritize there pet and go hungry, they don’t have means to buy bulk or get to cheaper stores. If Iams really that good – y they not make for humans?
If in any doubt about Tesco’s motives read an excellent book called TESCOPOLY By Andrew Simms. It is 15 years old but nothing changes.
Buy your chosen brands elsewhere.
There are other retailers available !!!
