UPDATED WITH VIDEO: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and paramedics are attending a road traffic collision on Niton Road near the junction with Beacon Alley this morning (Sunday).
The occupants of a car are trapped after the vehicle left the carriageway and came to rest deep in a hedge lining the side of the road. The car has also collided with a bus stop signpost.
Emergency teams were called to the scene at around midnight.
Firefighters in 2 appliances from Newport are working to extricate those involved.
The road has been closed at the junction with Beacon Alley.
UPDATE @ 00:50 – A male and female have escaped any serious injury and are now in the care of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The male driver of the Ford Puma is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital. His female passenger has not been injured and was able to free herself from the car.
It is thought the vehicle was travelling from Rookley towards Niton when it left the carriageway on the wrong side of the road.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down and the appliances have returned to station.
The road remains closed whilst recovery of the vehicle is arranged.
UPDATE – The road has now reopened.
