HM Coastguard was tasked for the second time this evening (Thursday) to reports of persons stuck in the mud in Newport.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor and Bembridge were mobilised to the Medina River near to Seaclose Park after an onlooker raised the alarm after seeing individuals stuck in the river bank.
Upon arrival, it was discovered the persons had since managed to free themselves from the mud.
An eyewitness has told Island Echo that 4 drunk persons were seen in the river prior to the emergency services’ arrival.
Once the crews were confident that the individuals were safe and nobody else was stuck in the mud, they were released to return to station.
Teams were called at around 22:00.

People aren’t ‘shamed’ any more. They big it up, uploading their actions onto social media.
If you don’t understand that, then you are out of touch with young minds of today.
And ‘that’ is just the problem with those in authority, the Police, the Fire brigade and the Government.
Too many think ‘kids’ are just a little silly, and will grow up to be sensible, many do, but many just continue this way of life, of doing what ‘they’ want, and KNOWING that society will bail them out, be it debt, crime, or reckless driving and behaviour.
They know that some older, stern faced Police, or Fire officer will drone on about the dangers they put themselves in and others, and ‘that’ will be their ONLY punishment.
Once the ‘lecture’ is finished, they will be laughing at the stupid old c….. to their chavy mates.
That is the truth in most cases, I know for a fact.
