HM Coastguard have been tasked this evening (Thursday) following reports of another cliff fall in Shanklin.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have been called to an area of beach between Shanklin and Luccombe at 19:45 after passer-bys witnessed the fall.
The assistance of police has also requested with 2 units present at the scene near to Horse Ledge, Shanklin.
Coastguard Rescue Officers are conducting a search of the area to make sure no persons are trapped or cut off by the tide.
Members of the public are being urged to keep away from the cliff face as s number of cliff falls have occurred along this same stretch of beach over the past few months.
UPDATE @ 21:30 – Coastguard Rescue Teams are now standing down from the incident after deeming nobody has been trapped or cut off by the fall.
Island Echo understands that police remain at the scene as the sunsets over the Island.
They are advising members of the public to stay away from the immediate area due to the uncertainty of further cliff falls.
UPDATE @ 00:00 – A spokesperson for Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team has tonight said:
“1st informant saw the cliff fall happen and we were tasked to ensure no persons were injured and provide safety cover to warn other members of the public not to be near the area.
“We have been called to this same location a lot this year as the falls keep happening which shows how unstable the cliff is.
“Please don’t go near the area to where the cliff is falling for your own safety.”
