UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and paramedics are responding to a road traffic collision on Middle Road between Calbourne and Carisbrooke this morning (Thursday).
2 fire appliances from Newport have turned out in response to the incident, which has occurred close to The Blacksmith Arms pub. An appliance from Ryde has been mobilised to Newport to provide fire cover in the meantime.
It is feared at least 1 person is trapped in the smash, which happened at just before 11:40.
The road is understood to be blocked in both directions.
UPDATE @ 12:07 – 4 casualties are being attended to by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service this lunchtime.
2 ambulances, 2 fire engines and several Police cars are now on scene.
It’s understood the incident has occurred at the junction of Betty Haunt Lane and has involved 2 vehicles – a VW Polo and a Mitsubishi Colt.
Southern Vectis say that their Route 7 buses will be diverting via Gunville, Forest Road and Elm Lane in both directions until further notice.
UPDATE @ 12:27 – Firefighters are working to cut free 2 persons trapped inside a vehicle.
Middle Road is expected to remain closed for sometime.
