Reports of someone in the sea prompted an emergency response to Bembridge last night (Monday), but as quickly as the incident began it was over as the person was actually found safe and well at home.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were mobilised at just before 20:00 to reports that an individual had been seen entering the water off Bembridge Beach, close to the RNLI station. Volunteers from Bembridge RNLI were also mustered to launch the inshore lifeboat.
However, just as the D-class lifeboat was entering the water the message came through that there were in fact no persons in difficulty.
The person at the centre of the alert had in fact been located at home by Police.
Less than 15 minutes after the incident began, emergency teams were stood down.
So people cant even go for a swim without someone thinking they are committing suicide?
did the person reporting it, not think to check first ??
(they obviously knew who it was supposedly in difficulty)
I suspect they were have a laugh after being high on drugs…
Better safe than sorry
