UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard are assisting a horse rider who has fallen on the beach at Shanklin this afternoon (Sunday).
A rapid response paramedic, an ambulance crew and both Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams are all on scene on the Esplanade.
The alarm was raised shortly before 16:00 when the rider fell from the horse, landing harshly on the sand beneath.
Precautions are being taken to ensure the casualty is moved as carefully as possible ahead of any spinal injuries being ruled in or out at hospital.
UPDATE @ 17:38 – The 39-year-old woman is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment.
She had fallen close to Shanklin Chine.
