The Isle of Wight College have announced a “best ever” performance from its Level 3 and A Level students for 2014/15.
In a record breaking year for the College, students achieved a 99% Pass Rate at A Level (A2) with 15.5% of students achieving high grades of A* and A compared to 14% in public education on the Island. 34.2% of students achieved grades A*-B compared to 26% in 2013/14; an improvement of 8%.
The college’s impressive figures continue with 100% of students achieving two full A Levels compared to 93% in public education on the Island. 94% achieved 3 A levels; compared to 67% on the Island in 2013/14.
Some 177 Level 3 and A Level students will be progressing to University.
Among the high achievers is 18-year-old Danielle Buckett from Newport, who secured A* grades in Economics, English Literature and EPQ, with an A in Modern History.
Danielle said:
“I am relieved to get my grades. The Isle of Wight College has helped me to work in an independent way which will definitely help me at university. I am really excited about going to university. I’m going to Oxford University to study Law at Mansfield College”
College Principal, Debbie Lavin, was full of praise for this spectacular performance:
“I am so proud of the students, and the staff who helped them exceed their expectations, to secure for themselves the destination of choice. Against a backdrop of rising standards this was a performance of the highest calibre. I am thrilled that so many will progress now to Higher Education and top quality Apprenticeships. I am proud for them, their parents and carers and the staff who have all worked so hard to achieve this performance.”
Deputy Principal, Lynne Christopher added:
“Much energy and effort is put into ensuring students achieve their target grades, based upon previous GCSE performance and to see so many students achieving grades higher than predicted is for me, the most gratifying outcome.
“The Isle of Wight College has a considerable national reputation for adding value to student grades but this year, the performance has exceeded even my hopes and dreams”.
