Despite plenty of action on the water and a new title sponsor for 2022, there will be no traditional Cowes Week fireworks night for the third year running.
The event used to be one of the Island’s biggest traditions, with tens of thousands of people heading down to Cowes and East Cowes seafronts to bag the best spot for the big bang.
Normally the event would be accompanied by the Red Arrows or other aerobatic displays too.
However, much like 2020 and 2021, the event will not be taking place in 2022.
This year’s absence is being blamed on the finances, rather than the global pandemic. Organisers of Cowes Week have said that they simply could not commit to having a fireworks display this year due to their financial situation, which has been impacted by the effects of COVID.
The fireworks display was last held in 2019 – although many would argue it has been several years since a worthy display has been held.

So basically, the most interesting bits of Cowes week not happening. Will there be live music in the marina? If not, nothing to go over to Cowes for.
There will be live music at The Globe on the balcony on the Esplanade from 3pm on Saturday and other days!
Millions of pounds floating about on the water skippered and crewed by millionaires yet they can’t put their short arms into their deep pockets for the final hurrah!!! That’s a pretty poor show.
on the plus side – there won’t be the pointless pollution in the atmosphere from those planes or the fireworks.
small win for the environment – never understood why we think it is ok to treat the air like a toilet bowl in the name on entertainment.
after all, we do need that air to breathe.
Somebody remind me not to get trapped in the kitchen with isle of wighter at a party. Thanks.
LOL, I would like to be locked in a kitchen with both of you x
You certainly should be locked up somewhere, Ting tong!
Get a life, there’s more than enough air to go round. If you are worried, buy an iron lung. I believe the Jackson estate may have one going spare.
You don’t actually believe all that crap about climate change do you ?
But I bet you drive a car, one that’s not electric and is polluting the air at our breathing level?
Lets put this into a bit of context. A Red Arrows display produces around 7 Tonnes of CO2.
An average car produces 1.7 tonnes a year.
So a Red Arrows display produces around the same as 4 cars do in a single year.
The UK averages 0.48 cars per head, so there are around 67,000 cars on the Isle of Wight kicking out over 300 tonnes of CO2 a day.
So a mere 2.3% of the cars on the Isle of Wight pump out as much CO2 as a Red Arrows display every single day.
If you are worried about the air you are breathing, the problem is on the ground and running on 4 wheels, not up in the air.
Don’t worry about co2 .It’s a hoax. Water vapor is a bigger greenhouse gas . The sun us the main driver of earth climate change.
Willie Soon and Freeman Dyson are world roected physicists not Prince Charles Greta.
Last I heard the Red Arrows were grounded anyway with Ejector Seat problems.
Booo! Looks like the writing is on the wall for cowes week.
Get Red Bull in there as a main sponsor, that would liven things back up.
I think it’s terrible! Something should be done about it!
Wrong!! Once again Waverley Park will not let people down. Fireworks display Friday night at the finish of Cowes week. For our customers to enjoy but look up into the sky and you will see them there for everyone to continue the tradition ☺️
And, as usual, sod the residents who you never engage with over these disruptive events.
I suppose the one good bit of news, the island pets can rest easy. Yes, it’s only one night for a very short time, but there will nothing to be scared of.
