Scoot Ferries, the Island’s new cross-Solent travel operator, have unexpectedly cancelled all of their sailings on all routes today (Saturday).
An announcement was made by the company via Twitter at 11:00 which stated they had ‘some very unfestive news’ that their services were suspended for the rest of the day.
An official reason for the cancellation of crossings on the Cowes-Portsmouth and Yarmouth-Lymington routes is yet to be provided, leading to rumours on social media. Scoot Ferries have been unable to provide a statement to Island Echo saying ‘not at the moment’.
Many ‘Scooters’ have demanded refunds for cancelled crossings and passengers have been left stranded on both sides of the Solent. It comes as the company offer £4 day returns this weekend on the Cowes-Portsmouth route.
This morning it was advised that the 08:00, 08:30 and 09:00 crossings on the Yarmouth-Lymington route were cancelled due to a technical problem with Scoot 1. Yesterday a proposed reduced timetable for the Yarmouth route was announced.
The official website, www.scootferries.co.uk, has been taken offline with a customer advisory notice issued. It is now said services remain suspended ‘until further notice’.
Further updates are expected later today.
