Police and paramedics were called to an assault in Newport Town Centre earlier this afternoon (Monday).
Several officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the scene on St James’ Street at around 15:30 after receiving reports that a man had been assaulted.
They were joined at the scene by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
At the scene, a male was treated for his injuries before being taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
Island Echo understands that the incident occurred near Man In The Moon.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident remain ongoing.

Going that way. Unless courts start handing out sentences that are punitive and meaningful nothing will change. The public can help by identifying drug dealers to police as the majority of crime is drug and or alcohol fuelled and this is a fact. Our neighbourhoods will only become safer if criminals are identified and reported so that they can be dealt with.

I was there, the only CCTV was when it started inside the pub, ended up outside, out of view of cameras unfortunately. Poor guy was utterly fkd up, he only spilt a pint by accident. I left once paramedics arrived, but the manager got a full breakdown of what happened by a few of us, I was sat on the table next to them drinking a coffee when it kicked off. Someone gave the full name of the guy that did it, so police will get him easily enough, according to the woman the scum has not long been released from prison for attempted murder.
Utter carnage, poor guy was barely conscious In a massive puddle of blood, all because he accidentally knocked a pint, something you say sorry for, buy them another drink and shake hands, but not this psyco.
That animal should be put down, we should never have scum like this walking free…..Use it for medical reasurch….
I say the same thing about pedophiles, give these pore animals a break. I hope this young man comes through this, mentally is going to take a lot of time.. shame on the scum that did this, get rid of all the foreigners so people like him can serve a real sentence.
Vermin like this should be taken out of society permanently. They are too much of a liability to be allowed in public. Hope the poor guy makes a full recovery.

Blimmin glad I’ve seen this, I thought the guy was dead, so much blood from his head. I was sat next to their table having a coffee, he seemed like a friendly guy, I had a nice chat and laugh with him and his mates, then this psyco turned up, had his drink accidentally spilt, and best the hell out of him. Police have his full name etc.
So why didn’t the bloke’s mates step in and give the psycho a good kicking?

Use to be, I grew up here and my memory of this Isle is beautiful. Have to say there’s places on the mainland I would not want to live but the island is becoming a hell hole.
