A new discounted Islander ferry ticket valid for late-night and early-morning crossings has launched this week, thanks to work between the Solent Transport User Group and Wightlink.
Sunset Flyer, which has been rolled out today (Tuesday), is valid on the Fishbourne-Portsmouth and Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry routes.
The ticket is valid for 30 days, provided you book sailings between 20:00 and 09:05. Tickets are set to cost £45 each way, making for a £90 limited period return.
This is a trial offer where bookings can be made until 30th September 2025, with travel available from now through to 31st December 2025. It is hoped that following an initial 3-month trial period, the ticket will also be rolled out to those visiting the Island from the mainland.
The new ticket has been introduced thanks to talks between the cross-Solent operator and STUG – previously known as the Wightlink Users Group.
To book this special, Islander-only offer, visit www.wightlink.co.uk/special-offers/sunset-flyerhttp://www.wightlink.co.uk/special-offers/sunset-flyer.
A spokesperson for STUG has said:
“STUG (formerly WUG) are delighted that the collaborative work with Wightlink has resulted in a number of concessions, discounts and benefits for islanders.
“Our young people, the islanders with disabilities, those without multilink passes and people travelling to private hospitals and for dentistry can now travel with some free passes, reduced fares and discounted multilinks.
“Details of these are on our Facebook and on our website www.stug.org.uk“.
Katy Taylor, Chief Executive of Wightlink, has said:
“We’re pleased to launch the Sunset Flyer as an Islander exclusive in response to customers asking for an off-peak fixed price option for breaks away from the Island and visiting their family on the mainland. We hope residents will make use of this offer to make some special memories over the summer and beyond.”

Great idea, how about doing a similar deal
for 1 night stays off the island.
This deals already covers 1 night stays!
You can use these tickets for up to 29 night stays
how about some cheap day returns (or even half day returns) for islanders?
I needed to pop over to porstmouth and back to pick something up (to big to carry, to fragile to post) & they wanted over £115 for a day return with only an hour in Portsmouth..
Cowes Blue Funnel , Cowes…..do cheap day tickets to Gunwharf Quay, check them out, really cheap
Cheaper crossings is what we need.
People with medical appointments get 50% off fares
so it proves the ferry operators can afford to give
such reductions.
£30 each way sounds better, still nearly £100 which is not cheap!
Guaranteeing a Ferry service that runs to it’s timetable would be even better ,rather than shoving half arsed deals at Islanders to fend off more complaints.
£50 day return is too much to be honest.
Less than 12 miles distance in total there and back.
A fair fare would be £30.00 return for island residents.
It’s a step in the right direction
