Just days after the doors closed following the retirement of the previous landlords, The Sun Inn at Calbourne has re-opened under the helm of Peter Greenhalgh and Jake Rigby.
The pair hope to successfully revive the much-loved community-led pub as the new leaseholders, an opportunity that came about as Pete was looking to return to the Island and Jake found the listing through Stonegate Pub Company.
As previously reported by Island Echo, The Sun Inn closed on Monday 1st May when Kate and David’s lease expired.
Pete started as a glass collector at the legendary Folly Inn, he then went on to manage 1000-capacity nightclubs and beach bars in Brighton for 16 years. Briefly returning in 2015, working doors in Ryde, Pete came to meet Jake and remained in contact ever since.
Jake started glass collecting in Coburgs and then moved to the bar and has since worked in and run various places around Ryde. He also worked as a doorman for a year and spent 7 years in the care sector looking after vulnerable adults with learning difficulties.
Speaking about their new venture, the duo have said:
“We are excited to become part of the community here in Calbourne. We aim to continue the spirit of the pub’s heritage of home comfort food with great drinks selection”.
Exceptional homecooked food for dine in and takeaway will continue to be offered until the new management, with daily roasts and specials also freqenting the menu.

I’ll be going simply to get a look at Jake alone: what a stud! Mine’s a double 😛
Oh, I don’t know. Peter looks buff to me!
Alright Betty, calm down dear!
Lol! That was my first thought!! Think there’ll be lots of ladies doing lunch! Haha
Good luck guys wish you every success with the pub … great pub so pleased it is staying open.
Yes I agree girls the eye candy will be a big bonus!
I’m sure if men had made comments like this about women, we’d have been branded sexists, treating women as objects. Where’s the equality?
Look like a lovely couple and I wish them every success.
Would you buy a used car from these men?
It’s a pub mate, not a car dealership.
