Customers have been expressing their gratitude for Kate, David and Waggles, the team at The Sun Inn in Calbourne, who have announced they will be closing the pub at the start of the next month.
Kate and David’s lease expires on 1st May so they have taken this opportunity to head into retirement and rest up after their years of hard work and commitment, serving their local community.
Not only did they run the pub but during the COVID pandemic, they opened a shop to provide locals with basic essentials and started a home delivery service. This was seen as a ‘lifeline’ for the local community and many happy customers have expressed their immense gratitude.
The pub will be running as normal over the Easter Holidays, and then the kitchen will close its doors after service on Sunday 16th April. After that, they will continue with normal opening times for the bar and shop only and there will be no food available after 16th April.
The doors will close permanently on Monday 1st May.
In the meantime, everything must go so punters are encouraged to help clear their stocks by popping in for a drink or a meal while they’re still open. However, with limited staff and stock, they might be missing a few items off their menu as things wind down.
Kate, David and Waggles would like to thank all staff, old and new, customers old and new, friends, neighbours, colleagues, suppliers and their family for their support over the years and the team at the pub have, in turn, wished them a happy retirement and some well-earned rest.
It remains unclear what the long-term future of the pub is but the overwhelming response from locals suggests that they will much miss their favourite watering hole and will hope that someone can fill the void left by the departure of trio.

Such a shame, but enjoy your well earned retirement
Such a shame, but with increased costs, wages, etc, etc, is it hardly surprising in this current climate? Welcome to Brexit Britain.
