There is a new crimefighter on the streets of the Isle of Wight… say hello to Police Dog Echo – a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois.
PD Echo started his life living in the back of a car, but after being rescued he was taken under the wings of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Puppy Development Program to see if he had the potential to become a Licensed Police Dog.
Following a period of time with his puppy walkers, he started his new life with his handler in July, fully qualifying back in November.
PD Echo is partnered with Sergeant Winchester, who recently became one of the Island’s dog handlers. Previously, Sgt Winchester worked on Response and Patrol and in the custody suite, but has now moved across to the Joint Operations Unit.
Together, the crimefighting duo ride around in their brand new Volvo dog unit – so there is no outrunning either!

Great to see, we need more Dogs on the block
to get the Numpty’s off the streets.
Wow, stunning!
It is great to see brilliant dogs like this working with the police. I understand that the police dogs like to chase after the criminals, as they like “fast food”.
