Ryde Town is getting a vibrant makeover with the installation of a new community mural aimed at deterring anti-social graffiti.
The eye-catching mural can now be seen on the WightFibre cabinet located near the entrance of the Co-op car park on George Street, adding a burst of colour and creativity to the area. The artwork is designed to transform the cabinet into a piece of public art.
WightFibre has collaborated with Ryde Town Council and talented artists, Emma and Hollie, who have been commissioned to bring their artistic vision to the project. Emma and Hollie are known for their ability to create engaging murals that capture the spirit of the community.
WightFibre CEO, John Irvine said:
“WightFibre have always had plans to do something with our white cabinets. This artwork project with Ryde Town Council and Community Murals is a great example of what can be done and help deal with the problem of graffiti in Ryde. WightFibre is always happy to get involved in community projects like this, because we care”.
Emma and Hollie shared their thoughts:
“We are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of Ryde Town. Through our artwork, we aim to inspire positivity and create a sense of pride within the community.”

NEW COMMUNITY MURAL AIMED AT DETERRING ANTI-SOCIAL GRAFFITI IN RYDE
Rather than deterring anti-social graffiti this cabinet will now become the #1 target for vandals.
This is a positive thing, but the yobs will not be deterred, they still need catching and prosecuting when caught. They are anti-social and will definitely not have the perception to appreciate the artwork and will just carry on doing what they do until the courts hand out genuinely deterrent punishments, the tax payer cannot keep paying for cleaning up their vandalism. If found guilty hit them hard and make them clean up the damage.
I’m afraid I may gave to agree with You. It’s like there is no understanding. It’s a bit like sticking two fingers up at Graffiti artists, some with extraordinary talent, and saying We are allowed to do this, under certain conditions, but You can’t. Art is kind of all about freedom of expression, and it’s something that honestly, everyone is entitled to. Give the people a wall maybe ?
as it’s a wight-fibre cabinet, which has power, and obviously internet, perhaps they could stick a camera on it to identify who ever does graffiti over it,..
Are you mad? Who on Earth would be monitoring this anti-graffiti camera? What a waste of time and effort.
Maybe just install a remote controlled taser as well to take out any offenders.

One of Ryde’s biggest eyesore’s is the old Ice Rink, demolish it and
build luxury apartments overlooking the solent.
Perfect site for a Marks and Spencer or Waitrose
it look really nice – hopefully even the graffiti artists – will recognise the work and won’t touch it.
Having a police force that walked a beat would also work. But the Tories would never pay for that.
As it is a vinyl wrap, hopefully the paint will have a harder job to stick.

How much did they pay for that crap? Could have got some professional vinyl wraps for a few pounds and cheap to replace once the yobs have drawn penises all over them.
