VIDEO: New CCTV footage of missing 71-year-old Michael Davies has been released a month since his disappearance from Sandown during the middle of the night.
Police have today (Friday) renewed their appeal for information to locate Michael, who hasn’t been seen since 26th May despite several searches involving the Police, WightSAR and members of the public.
The last confirmed sighting of Mr Davies was on CCTV as he walked along Avenue Road in Sandown away from the seafront at 00:43 on Wednesday 27th, some 45 minutes after he was seen inside the nearby hotel he was staying in, the Hotel Maria. He hasn’t been seen since.
Island Echo readers have reported seeing a man matching his description in the cycle path area of Sandown, but enquiries are yet to locate Mr Davies or any of his clothing or possessions. Members of the public conducted a search of the area but did not discover any new leads.
Although no trace of Michael has been found, Police say there is no evidence to suggest any crime or foul play, but believe it is most likely Mr Davies will be found in the Sandown area where he could be taking shelter.
Detectives investigating Mr Davies’ disappearance are asking members of the public to focus on his clothing in the CCTV footage below – shot inside the Hotel Maria -, particularly the distinctive blue zip-up top with the number ’95’ on the front.
Police say they are especially keen to hear from any members of the public who remember seeing a man matching Mr Davies’s description walking in Sandown Town Centre with a torch during the early hours of Wednesday 27th May.
Officers and PCSOs from the local neighbourhood policing team will be on patrol in Sandown tonight to display and distribute more leaflets and posters.
In a statement released through Hampshire Constabulary, relatives have today said:
“We would like to thank the police, members of the public, and the media again for their continued support through our dreadful time.
“We still remain in limbo with the not knowing where our husband, father and grandfather is.
“We are still crying out for any information about Mike – please contact the Police ASAP if you have any.”
