A 22-year-old man sustained cut injuries to his hand after being assaulted with a knife in Sandown last night (Wednesday).
The incident occurred at an address on Station Avenue, close to the junction with The Broadway, shortly before 19:00.
Island Echo is told that an altercation between 2 neighbours resulted in a 22-year-old being slashed with a knife leading to superficial injuries to his hand.
In an unusual twist, the suspect then suffered a medical episode which resulted in the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service being called to the scene. It soon became apparent that an assault had potentially taken place leading to paramedics calling for the assistance of Police.
With fears that the 22-year-old may have been bleeding out inside the property, officers forced entry into a room. The victim was not present but shortly afterwards returned to the property and made himself known, presenting with an injury to his hand.
A 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He was initially taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment before being transferred to custody.
The suspect remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
This latest incident comes just 2 months after a stabbing on Station Avenue.
