Bembridge RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat was launched this evening (Sunday) to assist multiple people who had got into difficulty whilst ‘walking’ to St Helens Fort.
After a relatively quiet and uneventful ‘Fort Walk’ yesterday evening, Bembridge’s D-class lifeboat was launched earlier this evening (before 18:30) at the request of the Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team who were ‘keeping an eye on this evening’s Fort Walk’ and were concerned about a mother & child who had got into difficulty during their attempt to walk to the Fort.
However, by the time the Norman Harvey arrived on scene, the 2 had made their way to safety, with the Tamar all-weather lifeboat placed on standby in case the situation escalated in any way.
At around 19:15, she was launched to provide support using her Y boat in the search for a 12-year-old child who had become separated from the rest of her family – also whilst taking part in the walk. The child was soon located and reunited with the family safe and well.
Both boats remained in the area keeping an eye on the last few ‘walkers’, some of whom were up to their shoulders in the water.
After a final check, and after the Norman Harvey had taken another couple of walkers back to Bembridge beach, both boats then returned to their respective boathouses and were recovered by 20:40.

Up to their shoulders in water f&÷%#@$g idiots should be made to pay the biĺ for RNLI afterall they were advised not to do it
Pay for what? Nobody needed rescuing.
No but they were called out!! Could of been somewhere else, or maybe at home with their families.
All the idiots that think it’s ok to take kids on that stupid walk won’t have any criticism….they have no right to call themselves parents, they are idiots full stop….
sooner they ban it the better, doing untold damage to a delicate eco system
They cannot ban it it is not an organised event. Freedom of choice . Like climbing a mountain.
Freedom to abuse our emergency services then? And put lives at risk?…many more selfish idiots will be along soon…
The RNLI choose to do the job to help people and save lives. So it would be most boring just sat around with millions of pounds worth of equipment with nothing to do.
They go on training courses to keep skills honed and learn new ways.
Just SEE the helping of people as this, not costing YOU a bean as all donations.
Just because you are too gutless or busted up to be able to walk out there, don’t prevent others doing such.
The vast majority coped well, and enjoyed the day.
So cancel the RNLI and judging what you have said, it won’t even cost the NHS a bean should anyone needs treatment….and all because it would be boring if our emergency service had nothing to do….who dragged you up??…
Letting you know seriously you need to get a job. You comment on everything every single day. Waste of oxygen
Why oh why don’t people think before attempting this walk, and take no notice of all the warnings. Then there are social media and press pictures showing people doing it, Madness.
Stupid people. They were told not to do it but still they did, maybe if they were told they would be charged a flat fee for any potential rescue, let’s say a nice large sum like £1000. That would prevent them doing it and in return if the rescue services get called out it’s cash for them.
It’s cost them more than that
Should have left them there to drown,
The stupid idiots should be made to pay the cost of the RNLI being there and be fined heavily.
Social services should investigate these complete idiots of parents, bet they won’t though
Why do they go and risk The RNLI crew Just to say they did the Fort Walk. This just confirms that there a lot of silly people roaming the island at the moment!!!
BB. No what it shows via the comments on here, is what was clearly evident anyway.
That we have a lot of weak, gullible people here, who believe anything the authorities tell them, giving them a free hand to control our lives to a far greater worrying extent.
Yet those in authority STILL risk injury from fake, but in reality Fox hunting, Yachting, power boating, still socialised when we were hiding from covid etc etc.
And we will be wobbling about on electric scooters when ‘they’ tell us to save the planet, whilst they glide past on a huge climate controlled electric cars in the dry, from a garage big as your home.
THINK
I THINK you (and all the other aliases you post this drivel under) are a total d*ckhead.
Fox hunting on the fort walk? What’s this world coming too?
A couple of points need to be here. Firstly don’t mention it & people won’t turn up. There’s no mention of anyone in need of assistance during the last big spring tide. Why because the basic land lover had not been made aware of the tidal conditions & therefore were none the wiser. Secondly the Volunteers of HMCG have for the last 10 years decided to line the route! So the unwitting land lover might have a false sense of it being made safer to attempt the walk. Obviously the volunteers love to stand in their blue helmet holding throw lines. But take away the what some class as a safety net & very few would dare to cross!!
On another page about fort walk some people were adamant that there has never been any problems, and even that there has never been any problems this time. Now they are proved wrong to a certain extent they dig their heels in even more with all the thumbs down.. can’t hear, la-la la la la, no not listening, hands over ears. Bit like brexit, go figure human nature so as it has been, so as it will always be lol
LIVE AND LET LIVE.
THIS ISLAND IS FULL OF SNOW FLAKES,
Still a free country (just).
So it’s alright to pick people up in the English Channel then free of charge at our expense. Why shouldn’t we have a choice it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for me and is legal.
Omg, they were told not to do it! The poor rescue people actually risk their lives for these idiots, send them a bloody big bill!!!
