A 2-vehicle crash is causing delays on Smallbrook Roundabout on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Friday).
The incident occurred just after 10:00 and has seen a Ford Fiesta and a Ford KA collide with one another.
Both of the involved vehicles, which are partially blocking the roundabout have sustained some damage.
Members of the public are diverting traffic at the moment. Traffic in the area is still relatively free-flowing.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area for the time being.
UPDATE @ 10:40 – One of the involved vehicles has already been privately recovered and the other moved to the grass bank on Ashey Road (Swanmore side).
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have arrived on scene.

Was this the roundabout that was installed by Island Roads. Works that took an age and was so that the junction would be safer!
Is this the roundabout that was installed to help Idiot island drivers that can’t drive???…
Great minds!
Yes it was but doesn’t account for people who don’t know what to do on a roundabout does it
If they don’t know what to do at a roundabout don’t drive
You can’t engineer out human error.
Is this the same Smallbrook roundabout that was completely redeveloped at some expense to sort this very issue?!!
Trouble is that it’s such a weird layout for a roundabout that even when people do indicate, it’s often difficult to work out where they’re intending to go…
You can’t account for idiots who don’t or won’t give way !
I was driving to Sandown yesterday and whilst stuck in the roadworks
traffic.
The car behind the young lady driver was filing her nails.
Says it all
Only Island Roads could design a roundabout where you have to turn right to get onto it (from Carters Road). They could have saved us a whole load of money and just installed speed humps on all approaches because that is the only thing that will slow traffic down
Many Islanders drivers do not understand the meaning of a
Roundabout .
Give way to the right Fools.
No, give way to vehicle on the roundabout from the right. Not I’m 30 foot away it’s my priority. The person sat at the next point of entry just has to sit there. Roundabouts are supposed to be a free flowing multi junction. Just a bit of time and concentration for fellow road users is all it needs. But hey ho who gives a sh1t I’m busy.
Well think it’s dfls actually fool
So people from London do know how to drive, don’t think so!
Such a small population on the Island and Caulkheads still struggle to drive.
Londoners know how to drive, we are use to driving on real busy Roads.
This is the most strange roundabout I have ever seen.
Were the workmen p*ssed when installing it.
It was designed like that to stop idiots from crashing, at the end of the day you can’t educate pork…
That is the only thing that makes sense, drunken workers
Badly designed by an idiot. Anything Island Roads gets involved with is going to be a joke, poor quality work that takes an age and causes maximum delays for the poor people that fund it.
Islanders are clueless when they approach a roundabout
Usual, give way to the right. Unfortunately they have no idea what the right is….
Yes would be at any other roundabout, but if you coming from Ashley then traffic on right from Haven street often have no indication going left, right or ahead and the staggered roads cancel indications. Motorists also speed across from Carpenters road towards Haven street and traffic from Smallbrook have blind spot to right, again due to staggered lay out. Would of been better to just force traffic to slow before entering old roundabout. They now just speed across in hope others stop. For tourists they must think IOW are stupid.
Island roads aren’t responsible for the idiots that use them ,About time drivers took responsibility for there actions
Well said Badger. Fed up reading comments always blaming Island Roads.
True they are not responsible for drivers but they are responsible for the dreadful and dangerous layout of that so called roundabout, who ever designed it must of been off their head.
Head office in France does the planning allegedly. Says it all traffic lights there would have sorted out the daily “shall we dance routine”!.
You only have to watch them down Ryde on the Interchange works.
There is more action in a Cemetery, it’s no wonder they over run
Lazy B’stards.
Us Islanders should have a say the way our money is being spent
I am fcuking fed up paying £2,000+ a year council tax for such service.
We islanders understand perfectly how to use a roundabout. You just close your eyes and floor it.
The REAL reason the roundabout was altered was so the huge extra amount of traffic from penny feather and Bullen developments can cope
The so called safety’ reason’ is a red herring as us council tax payers then foot the bill NOT then the tickled pink developers
Sorry but that’s not Islanders, that’s overners!
Do away with the roundabouts and install traffic lights ?
What a sensible safe idea.
Unfortunately Safety is not something the Island understands.
People still don’t approach it correctly especially from Carter’s Road they just drive across as it’s they’re right of way regardless of the other traffic
Any mode of transport that isn’t a horse and cart and islanders struggle with the controls
Wouldnt happen with A.Ì. Driverless..
How do roundabouts help traffic?
Roundabouts are a safer alternative to traffic signals and stop signs. The tight circle of a roundabout forces drivers to slow down, and the most severe types of intersection crashes — right-angle, left-turn and head-on collisions — are unlikely. Roundabouts improve traffic flow and are better for the environment.
