A motorcyclist has suffered leg injuries following a collision with a car in Lake this evening (Friday).
The incident has occurred at the traffic light junction of Newport Road and Lake High Street, resulting in the main Newport to Sandown road being closed heading east from Merrie Gardens.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has a paramedic crew, an enhanced care paramedic and an operational commander on scene with several Police units also in attendance.
Island Echo understands that the male motorcyclist was hit by the car at just before 19:45.
Thankfully, the rider’s injuries are not deemed to be life threatening but he is being conveyed to hospital for further assessment and treatment.
Motorists are being diverted locally and are being kindly reminded to pay attention to directions given by officers.
UPDATE @ 21:10 – Emergency services have now stood down from the incident and Newport Road has reopened in both directions.

No comments as to whose fault but hopefully the Bike rider will be OK.
Not sure who was to blame but i saw the car driver afterwards with police and he look very dodgy and had a shiftness about him..
Car driver most likely. Motorcyclist are always more careful knowing they come out of it the worst.
Likely a drunk, drugged or just dim witted car driver.
Plenty of DFL er’s live here now, and speed and jump lights
Hope the leg is fully functional after being hit
I dont know whos fault it was but I seen car driver with police after looked dodgy with a shiftyness a bout him..
Our friend was at the scene and the driver of the car was a little Italian looking guy she said was quite dishy, but who spoke with a Cockney accent. Seemed sober but said he seemed a little confused, but of course could have been the shock of it all.
Hope they are all ok, and no not sure who was a fault so have to wait for updates.
Old people…….happy now ?
We had plenty a lot of tearaways on bikes back home.
hope he not so bad and no brains is damage.
the lights there are very poorly timed, so if the car was too quick and the bike was coming through on amber easy to occur.
lucky the careless car driver never killed the motor bike rider. Car drivers need to be more aware, likely he not used to island driving so many newcomers here now.
Take his licence away for a year or two to give him thinking time to what he could have done.
Least not a deliberate act, like we see in London where certain types deliberately try to run over the innocent. Just a careless car driver not looking out for vulnerable bikes is my guess.
Time will tell but so lucky no one hurt or worse.
The car driver was not those, he seemed genuinely caring. A tiny little Italian whose slightly more elderly wife was naturally most distressed.
Unsure what happened as never saw the accident actually happen, but the small man and his wife were deeply caring and decent folk.
Hope the rider makes full recovery.
