A motorcyclist is being transported the short distance to hospital following a crash on the dual carriageway in Newport tonight (Tuesday).
Police have closed 1 lane of Medina Way heading southbound as emergency services tend to the injured rider.
2 motorcycles are present at the scene with damage visible to 1 of the machines.
Members of the public have stopped to assist, but the situation is now under control with 2 local Roads Policing units in attendance.
It’s unclear if any other vehicles have been involved in the smash.
UPDATE – The road has now re-opened fully as a result of the motorcycles being moved off the dual carriageway.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Police have launched an appeal for witnesses as a result of last night’s collision, which has left a 19-year-old with serious injuries.

The local drag strip
Good to see the police officers properly dressed for a live carriageway incident!
Well what did you expect? Fancy dress?
Yeah dressed in black on a dark carriageway not the smartest move
Agree, they sneak (try) around town in hi Vis so crims can see them mile off and avoid them, esp drug dealers, then when health and safety would be common sense they wear black in dark !.
imagine tryna wheelie L bozo
Wot .learn to spell
Hope the motorcyclist is ok and makes a full recovery
The Dual Carriageway is like an Autobahn
NO SPEED LIMIT FROM WHAT I SEE EVERY TIME I DRIVE ALONG THE
DUAL CARRIAGEWAY
north bound, offside lane,.. the assumed speed limit by most seems to be about 20!
so many seem to move to the outside lane, as soon as they get off coppins bridge (if not before), and then proceed to crawl along at 20-30mph,.. just ‘cos they want to turn right at the lights,.. or worse still, turn right into the hospital.
& they do exactly the same southbound
Oh,.. & what ever happened to using indicators when changing lanes ??
have none of these people actually read the highway code ??
lucky you lot over there have no motorways you can’t drive on a small simple dual carriageway that island must have the worst drivers in the uk. just look how many stupid crashes you lot have in a week
You are completely wrong, if you can safely drive around the island, then you can drive anywhere. Driving on the mainland is so much easier, its you oveners coming here on holiday, who haven’t got a clue how to drive safely on country roads full of sharp bends and brows of hills, totally out of their depth because like you all they are good at is driving on straight roads.
Come over here and I will challenge you to drive from the northern tip of the island to the southern tip of the island and we will see how good a driver you are.
I can handle your roads, because driving on the mainland is so easy, compared to driving here. I was 17, I drove my parents from Southampton to Edinburgh, with one pit stop.
No need to shout. 😉
And not just the islands motorway. Any road these days. Tories cut the police force in half. What you expect. Tory voters did this.
2 RPUs 2 ambulances ?
RPU’s (Roads Policing Unit) are traffic units which also include firearms and dog handlers for your information.
