Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fire which destroyed a motorcycle and damaged a building in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Officers were called to Trafalgar Court on Union Street at around 04:00 to reports of a motorcycle which had been on fire. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze and quickly brought the situation under control.
Hampshire Constabulary are now investigating the exact circumstances of the fire and are working to determine whether or not the incident is one of arson.
Due to extensive fire damage it has not yet been possible for Police to identify the exact details of the vehicle.
PC Tom Wyld said:
“Our colleagues from the fire service have told us that there were several people walking by as they tackled the fire, probably heading home after a night out.
“If this was you please contact us as you may have seen something which could assist our investigation.
“As well as damage to the bike, the fire caused damage to a building and the archway, so we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen something suspicious.”
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Wyld on 101, quoting 44160446985, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
