Emergency services have responded to no fewer than 3 road traffic collisions this morning (Wednesday) amid tricky driving conditions across the Isle of Wight.
Shortly before 06:30, Police were called to A3054 Yarmouth Road – the main road connecting Newport to the West Wight – after receiving reports of a car leaving the carriageway and coming to a stop in a field near Underwood Lane.
Then, a short time later, a 3-car crash occurred on the Robin Hill roundabout at Downend where a Ford KA sustained front-end damage. This incident has since been cleared.
Police are now on scene at a crash involving several vehicles on the A3020 Shanklin Road between Godshill and Whitely Bank. Here a vehicle has been left with a wheel hanging off.
At Nettlestone, a Vauxhall Astra van has been abandoned after becoming stranded in flood water. Another car – a Ford KA – got caught out at Whippingham shortly before 04:00, but has seen been recovered.
It all comes following a night of heavy rain, which continues in part this morning, that has left roads flooded or with significant surface water.
Flood alerts remain in force for the Eastern Yar, Ryde St John’s and the River Medina, with a more severe flood warning in force for the Lukely Brook in Newport.
So many IDIOTS still drive like morons in
such wet dangerous conditions.
I feel sorry for the Emergency services having to
attend to incidents in such awful conditions.
If the accidents are proven to be down to
wreckless driving in such conditions, the
motorists responsible need their licences taken
away from them for 5 years and they should receive
HEAVY fines.
It is not easy teaching IDIOTS right from wrong,
they are also a strain on the struggling NHS service!.
More crap driving ..nothing to do with the weather just crap driving..
If you are a careful driver, somebody who is intelligent and aware of their surroundings, then I strongly advise you to get dash-cam fitted in your car. It will, at the very least, prevent you having to justify WHO is in the wrong when, not if, that accident happens. There are far too many unintelligent drivers on these island roads. They are unable to rationalise their poor driving behaviour and the conditions of the environment. You are wasting your breath trying to explain to these people that driving too fast, looking at your phone while driving, tailgating, jumping lights will result in accidents. A 3 car collision on that roundabout? UNBELIEVABLE!

We need more traffic Police, worth every penny.
Shanklin road collision was NOT due to bad weather at all the other driver was not paying attention driving towards my mum come onto the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD colliding into the side of her car on a straight 30 mph road in dark with the heavy rain should have been taking more care and attention luckily she didn’t seriously injure anyone!
Not everyone has crap driving, my mother in law is lucky to have a few bruises, aches and pains,and not serious injuries due to the irresponsible drivers who don’t put there lights on esecially on a dark wet morning and not looking where she was going crashing into the side on her car. And it also wasn’t a head on collision so maybe report the correct news when only one person was to blame
