A lack of staff is still causing a headache for Red Funnel and it’s passengers with the cancellation of at least 4 Red Jet sailings this morning (Monday).
The 06:05 and 07:15 sailings from Southampton have been pulled alongside tbe 06:40 and 07:50 from West Cowes.
Today’s commuter sailing cancellations not only come at the start of the working week, but at the start of busy Christmas week too.
Red Funnel says legally it must ensure a certain number of trained staff on every sailing to ensure the safety of passengers.
UPDATE @ 08:17 – Another 2 sailings have been cancelled this morning’ the 08:25 from Southampton and the 09:00 from Cowes.
Red funnel apologises for any disruption to your journey.
UPDATE @ 10:07 – The 15:35 and 16:45 sailings from Southampton have now also been cancelled, alongside the 16:10 and 17:20 sailings from West Cowes.

They should seriously think about building a bridge!
And you should seriously think about moving!
What is your objection to a bridge , are you still worries about gas lights or this new thing called electricity
Try thinking about it like crime increase 10 fold.
I don’t know who “they” are, but the fact is that there are few options for those who are unhappy with the ferry services.
That’s about it. Constantly whining about the ferry companies and demanding that something is about them is pointless as nothing actually can be done.
I like chicken I like liver meow meow meow meow please deliver
I wonder when a poor service becomes something more than an embarassment, when peole miss long awaited hospital appointments on the mainland, companies start seriously considering not employing people from the island becuase they can not get there on time, I wonder why our MP has not got on board this problem, because someone needs to,
Perhaps you aren’t aware that Seldom’s cousin is on the board of Red Flannel? No chance of Seely rocking the boat.
We ALL know this is bs!
Staff are still there for the other sailings next too the ones cancelled .crazy lies
My partner was cabin crew on hovertravel….staff worked whole shifts not just for odd sailing times lol
And WE DO NEED A BRIDGE.or suck this being at they whim crap
The staff have just received a really good pay increase and still there are “staff shortages!!” This suggests to me that the working conditions and the obvious round the clock shifts for a supposed 24 hour service are probably not attractive enough to encourage the right sort of people. This, coupled with the senior management’s inability to actually manage staff and their tunnelled vision on profits for the shareholders and lack of investment means that yet again Islanders suffer.
If staff where I work were that unreliable we’d be handing out P45s and getting new, more reliable people in.
Obviously Red Funnel have a few people on their payroll who think they are indispensable.
Yes, we know it’s cold and wet at that time of the morning, but that’s your job and people are relying on you, so get out of bed and do it. It’s what you’re being paid for.
