A 33-year-old Totland man who is accused of crashing into another car in Whitwell, before then driving off from the scene, has appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
As first reported by Island Echo, a black MG3 collided into a green Nissan Serena at a set of temporary traffic lights on Ventnor Road, Whitwell at 18:15 on 16th April this year. This led to 2 people being injured.
The driver of the MG is alleged to have failed to stop at the scene and drove off in the direction of Niton – later being spotted on Military Road heading West.
Now, Vincent Matthews, of St Saviours Road in Totland, has appeared in court charged with driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident.
Matthews appeared before the bench on Friday (12th August).
The case has been adjourned for the trial on 20th October. Vincent Matthews has been granted unconditional bail until that time.

So this piece of scum is pleading not guilty even though he has been filmed driving the damaged vehicle away from the scene. Whatever sentence is eventually given (which we all know will not be much), should be doubled just for that. Utter pond life.
What a prat, a Bigboy did it and ran away.
Guess this self entitled cretin will still be driving? clearly something he is too thick to actually do.
Omg!! What is wrong with the law?? He’s on camera, what more proof do they need? Disgusting human being
Hey IE, The bloke has pleaded not guilty.
Are you allowed to name and shame ect.
Especially in an ongoing active court case ?
Spineless chav pathetically attempting to weasel out of his responsibilities. What a man.
Irrespective of whether a car accident was your fault or not, leaving the scene of a crash without exchanging details is an offence. Why has this guy pleaded not guilty? I wonder what the excuse will be in the court for leaving the scene?
What a complete idiot hope they throw him in prison
I believe this is known as the Shaggy defence.
ahh bless him he’s probably got mental health issues
