The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to a serious medical emergency in Shanklin this evening (Saturday). Flying doctors have touched down at the County Ground off Green Lane to tend to a poorly patient, who has been transferred to the scene from a nearby residential address by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. A fire crew from Shanklin are also in attendance having turned out to the initial call as a medical response. A local Community First Responder has bolstered efforts. The air ambulance left its base at Thruxton at just before 19:00, touching down in Shanklin at 19:15. It remains on the ground as doctors treat the patient.
UPDATE @ 20:33 – The air ambulance has lifted from the County Ground and is flying the patient directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for further treatment.
