The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed at a playground in Newport this evening (Sunday) in response to a medical emergency in the town. Having left its Thruxton base at around 17:45 the yellow-liveried stand-in helicopter landed at the Victoria Recreation Ground – near the play equipment – at around 18:00. Flying doctors immediately made their way down Alderbury Lane towards Old Westminster Lane where the incident is unfolding. A couple of ambulances and a Critical Care Paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene with it understood that a single fire appliance from Newport was also called to help, however they have since stood down. It is unclear as to the exact nature of the incident. UPDATE @ 19:10 – The patient has been conveyed by air ambulance to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

What? At least try to make a relevant point. Election is over now, probably time to bore off with all this inflammatory nonsense. We have always had criminals, the island has in the past hosted far more than it does now. We don’t have any illegal immigration problems here and as far as I can see the air ambulance still shows up when we need it. Get a life.

It’s pretty reprehensible to publicise some poor person’s personal emergency, but allowing someone to use what was probably a very worrying time for them and their family as an opportunity for political point scoring is disgusting.
