A mattress fire at a block of flats in Cowes has prompted the launch of a petition calling for the ‘immediate eviction’ of some ‘dangerous’ residents.
Crews from Cowes and Newport were called to Moira House, on Sun Hill, at around 05:45 on Sunday, following reports of a fire.
Firefighters used 1 hose reel to extinguish the small blaze, which was contained to a mattress inside a bedroom.
Thankfully, no one was injured.
Following the incident, which saw residents evacuated onto the street, a petition has been launched calling for some tenants of Moira House to be evicted.
The petition calls for the ‘immediate eviction of the tenants’, with the author claiming their ‘persistent drug and alcohol abuse’ is ‘endangering all residents’.
The petition has so far received 37 signatures.
Police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
Just moving the problem. In our snowflake world we just got to put up with it. Everyone at risk because of one oxgen thief but judging by most comments on here you’ll be mostly ok with that.
Hope it’s successful for them. People who are anti social, smoke weed, take drugs and drink excessively, need to learn their behaviour won’t be tolerated.
There is no place in society for such persons.
I saw some unsavoury persons today, new car

nothing visibly wrong with them apart from
being work shy.
Both were vaping, too many persons think they
are entitled in Britain 2026 to a life of Freebies.
Probably never done a days work in their lives, the
system is broken and beyond repair!
Reason to vote reform and no one else. England need to cleanup the fraud and illegals
just because you cant visibly see a disability doesn’t mean they dont have a hidden one.
This is becoming a serious problem for decent people. Why should people have to live with the burden of low life poisoning the area around them, some of them are paying life long mortgages to be where they are, why should they have to put up with junkies and drunks spoiling and endangering their quality of life? Some of them are probably pensioners who are soon to be victimized for paying tax on their pension ”benefits” while these leeches on benefits to by snort and swill with will pay nothing. This is victimization of the elderly and age discrimination. Let’s hope a new and out in the real world government will make this problem a priority
Sadly I cannot see things improving,
politicians are out of touch with reality.
With their huge salaries, pensions, expenses and
2nd homes they don’t see what the real world is like.

Discrimination against a person with mental health simple as, you want to put a whole household on the streets.
Because from what I know, someone was on the bed asleep and was nearly killed in that fire. HAVE A HEART!
When you hear one tenant in the building was smoking crack whilst pregnant with her daughter, can you put up a petition to remove her also.
