38-year-old Luke Fauvel has been banned from entering the centre of Newport for a period of 3 years as part of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) imposed by the courts.
Fauvel, of Station Avenue in Sandown, was handed the CBO by Magistrates on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday afternoon. This follows a prolonged period of abusive and threatening behaviour perpetrated by Fauvel.
Police have worked with local businesses, shop owners and pubs to understand the extent of the issues, which included reports of criminal damage, theft, public order offences, and drunken anti-social and nuisance behaviour.
Magistrates were subsequently provided with witness statements outlining this behaviour and considered Fauvel’s previous convictions which date back over 16 years to 2006. His most recent conviction was on 2nd September this year after he pleaded guilty to shoplifting – relating to the theft of a vacuum cleaner from Sainsbury’s in Newport on 16th July.
It was back in February that Fauvel was handed a suspended sentence for stealing items from Currys and placing them for sale on Facebook.
Fauvel is now prohibited from doing the following under the conditions of the CBO:
- Acting in an anti-social manner in any public place on the Isle of Wight; that is to say in a manner that causes or is likely to cause harassment alarm or distress to any person not of the same household as himself
- Consuming alcohol or be in possession of an open vessel containing intoxicating liquid in any public place on the Isle of Wight
- Entering the area of Newport, Isle of Wight, bounded by West Street, High Street, Trafalgar Road, Upper St James Street, Medina Avenue, St George’s Approach, St George’s Way and East Street and as shown on the map, except for pre-arranged appointments with Hampshire Constabulary, Santander Bank, Roach Pittis Solicitors and Isle of Wight Council at County Hall
- Entering any premises which have issued a banning notice against him and which he is aware of
The map provided shows the prohibition area, and there are points marked on the map which indicate certain locations where incidents have been reported relating to Fauvel’s behaviour.
Inspector Matt Gooding of Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Luke Fauvel’s extensive history of poor behaviour has now caught up with him, and he has been served with a lengthy order that will limit his ability to continue behaving in this manner.
“These incidents have caused misery to the local community for far too long, and I hope this provides some reassurance that action is being taken to prevent any further longer term impact.
“If any conditions of the CBO are breached, then Fauvel risks facing time in prison.
“We are grateful to the local community and our partners who have supported the work that has gone into securing this outcome.
“We continue to encourage anyone who is affected by anti-social behaviour to contact police by calling 101, or using the report tool on the Hampshire Constabulary website.”
What a low life. So who or where is going to be his next victim? It won’t be long before he breaks the ban and then we can wave him good riddance as he gets finally put behind bars. I’m sure our great Police on the Island will be keeping a very close eye on him.
Needs injecting with a lethal cocktail of drugs, a cheap social security paupers burial, and with a huge population life will go on fine and better without such dross.
Stick him on a raft and let him go

Pray what will happen if he manages to break this order. It is a challenge to him to do so as that is probably his mind set so I hope the powers that be are aware?
Why not kick him off the island, he will go into Newport, all he needs to do is get a cab and change his appearance..
Could start by shaving his “beard” off and looking less like he grooms kiddies

Best thing they can do with him is enrol him into the Army to do service I am sure they would sort him out.

A tiny geographic banning order just pushes the problem on to other towns. You’d think at least 16years of offending would by now result in increasing time inside prison.
Banned from Newport Centre but can still go to currys and sainsbury’s which are 2 of his favourite pick up points !

He quite possibly has severe mental issues and would — perhaps — benefit from effective treatment, maybe as an inmate of some kind of institution.
