A convicted sex offender who ‘gave in to temptation’ by plugging a USB stick full of indecent child images into his laptop, is to be sentenced at the Isle of Wight Crown Court next year.
Derek Bayton, 63, of Dodnor Lane in Newport, admitted 3x make indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child and breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 10th December).
Prosecutor Lauren McConnell told the court that back in February 2019, Bayton was handed a suspended sentence by Guildford Magistrates Court after admitting an offence of making indecent images.
As part of his conviction, monitoring equipment was installed on his devices so that Police could track if he was downloading any images of an inappropriate nature.
The court heard how on 6th March this year, a notification alert suggested that inappropriate images were being viewed on Bayton’s device. It was later discovered that the 63-year-old had viewed a total of 13 Category A images, 46 Category B images and 77 Category C images.
The offending images were stored on a USB stick found in Bayton’s possession, a discovery which put him in breach of his SHPO.
In Police interview, Bayton admitted dto estroying the USB stick after realising he had done wrong.
Defending Bayton, Tom Cooke told the court that Bayton was disappointed that he had ‘given into temptation’ and that he had previously undertaken work to address the issues that centre around his offending.
Magistrates adjourned the case until 4th February 2025 when Bayton will next appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing.
I say poke his eyes out then that will solve his problem
