A 56-year-old man was arrested following an incident on board a Southern Vectis bus last night (Saturday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight were called to a report of a public order incident on a bus on Lushington Hill, Newport shortly after 19:00.
Police attended and a 56-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was removed from the bus and arrested on suspicion of common assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
Investigations, into the incident continue.
UPDATE ON MONDAY – 56-year-old Martin D’Arcy, of no fixed abode, has been charged with assault by beating, and a further three counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of his/her duty.
He was remanded in custody by police to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 6 October).
At the hearing, he was bailed by Magistrates with conditions and is due to stand trial at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 14th May 2026.
And they try to encourage people to travel by bus.
Too many numpties for my liking on buses.
Another drain on society wasting the time and effort of the police.
I do wish the police focused their attention on the daily antisocial gatherings in Church Litten, I actively avoid walking through there with my young children due to the drunken behaviour, smell of drugs and swearing.
I have to agree that location is not a good advert for the
Island.

Why wasn’t there a magistrate on the Island, who could sit? Carting some scrote over to Southampton only for him to be bailed( why was he bailed when he has no fixed abode?) is hardly efficient use of police resources.
