A man has been pulled to safety by 2 off-duty lifeguards after getting into difficulty in the sea off Ventnor Esplanade this evening (Wednesday).

Emergency services received a report that someone was in difficulty off the shore at just after 17:00, prompting the mobilisation of Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Ventnor’s Co-Responder.

Upon arrival at the scene it was discovered by the first responders that the male in distress had been hauled onto dry land by 2 members of the public – understood to be off-duty lifeguards.

Paramedics have treated the casualty for cuts and grazes sustained after being pushed against the large rocks by strong waves.
