A 41-year-old man who allegedly crashed his car into another vehicle before then assaulting its elderly occupant has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
Police were called to Regent Street in Shanklin at around 09:00 this morning (Tuesday) to a report of an altercation that had taken place following a minor road traffic collision.
Island Echo understands that the alleged offender reversed into another car, with the occupants of both vehicles then getting out.
A man in his 80s subsequently sustained minor injuries to his hands. He was tended to by local businesses.
A 41-year-old man from Shanklin was issued with a community resolution in relation to the altercation. However, he was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
He has been released from Police custody and remains under investigation.

If that happened to my father, the very brave 41 year old who according to the report was to blame then decided to assault a person NOT to blame, he would receive a personal call from myself, that would ensure a trip in a ambulance
which in turn would ensure you a trip in a police car

The courts need to get tough on drug driving. Some people will say, it’s only a bit of blow. It’s Cannabis and it’s an illegal drug and only brain dead idiots think it’s ok to puff away then get in a car and drive. You deserve all you get fella.
The level for all illegal drugs and alcohol when driving should be ZERO – FULL STOP. We are pussyfooting around with variable levels and this causes genuine confusion. Zero levels are easy to understand, and how on earth can illegal drugs have a legal level for someone in control of a motor vehicle ? It is a total nonsense.

The sycalodgical damage to the elderly man and his dear wife, must be worse than any injury he suffered……it will stay with them for the rest of there life, I would say from now on they will fear going shopping again..
