Police have launched an investigation into an alleged assault on a man in his 50s in Newport late yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).
Officers were deployed to the Town Centre at 16:34 to reports that a male had been assaulted in Church Litten Park.
The victim was located with minor injuries to his head on nearby Medina Avenue.
A cordon was erected for a time but was soon removed when the severity of the situation was confirmed.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are continuing to probe the incident.
No arrests have been made.

Unfortunate that nights are getting dark very early at present, wonder if the assault was drug or drink related? The Police who no doubt will ask for another massive percentage of Council Tax money need to start doing more night patrols, Church Litten is getting a worse reputation than it deserves, especially as it is also reportedly meant to be a massive grave yard. Should the assault turn out to be a teenager then perhaps the Government really do need to think about bring back National Service especially with people like Putin and God help us if Trump gets in, along with Elon Musk – all three must be suffering from overdose of botox – which does affect the brain.
