43-year-old Aaron Payne, who is accused of stealing from multiple shops in Sandown earlier this week (Monday), is to appear before a Crown Court Judge next month.
Shortly before 22:00 Police were alerted to an attempted theft at the Co-Op on Sandown High Street, during which staff were assaulted. A short time later, a number of items were stolen from the nearby Sainsbury’s store.
When officers located a suspect, a police officer was kicked.
Payne, of Avenue Road in Sandown, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, theft from a shop, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress, and assaulting an emergency worker.
Appearing at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday), Payne entered no plea. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 11th August.
