Lengthy diversions will be in place for motorists heading to and from Cowes this weekend as work continues on the major St Mary’s roundabout scheme.
Medina Way (Parkhurst Road) will be closed between St Mary’s Roundabout and the entrance to the prisons – the stretch of road directly outside the hospital – this Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
The work is to allow carriageway resurfacing work as part of the junction improvement works.
The road will be closed northbound (towards Cowes) from 20:00 and then in both directions from 22:00. The road will re-open in both directions by 06:00 on Sunday morning.
The diversion route of approximately 12 miles will be via Rolls Hill and Whitehouse Road, although motorists should remember that Forest Road is also currently closed for the latest phase of the St Mary’s work meaning traffic will be further diverted via Gunville Road and Carisbrooke.
Island Roads apologises for any inconvenience but say they have scheduled this essential work overnight and at the weekend to minimise disruption.
The scheme is due to be completed in December.
