UPDATED: The main road between Shanklin and Ventnor has been closed to traffic this morning (Tuesday) due to a gas leak in Shanklin Old Village.

Motorists heading in and out of Ventnor will now have to divert via Wroxall as a result of the 35m closure between Chine Avenue and the Old Village.

SGN engineers have been called to inspect and repair a leak outside The Crab public house.

The diversion route is High Street, Victoria Avenue, Godshill Road, Whiteley Bank, St Johns Road, Clarence Road, Newport Road, Ocean View Road, Mitchell Avenue, St Boniface Road, Leeson Road, Bonchurch Road, Cowleaze Hill and Church Road.

Southern Vectis say that their Route 3 service will not be able to serve between Shanklin Old Village and Chimney Steps. The Island Coaster will serve Chine Avenue and the Old Village then divert via Victoria Road.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY – The road remains closed and is expected to remain closed throughout the day, possibly into Thursday.
