UPDATED: The driver of a lorry has got himself into a pickle after veering off the road and onto the grass verge on Mersley Down near Newchurch this afternoon (Thursday).
The Adams Morey cab, towing a Poundland trailer, is firmly stuck and listing to one side at the summit of the downs between Lime Kiln Shute and Newport Shute.
No one has been injured in the incident and the road remains open in both directions, however, it is possible that traffic restrictions or a full closure will be put in place later to allow for the recovery of the vehicle.
It is unknown why the vehicle left the carriageway whilst travelling towards Newport.
UPDATE @ 14:46 – Island Roads have confirmed that an emergency road closure is currently being put in place from Smallbrook Roundabout to Hare and Hounds pub, Downend.
Also, all roads leading to The Downs will be closed.
The closures are to allow the safe removal of the HGV.
UPDATE @ 18:21 – The Downs Road has now re-opened to traffic in both directions.
