Liz Earle is set to make redundancies as it announces the closure of its Head Office in Ryde, in what is yet another blow for the Isle of Wight economy.
The beauty brand, owned by the American firm Walgreens Boots Alliance, is to shut down its operations at Nicholson Road, it has been confirmed this lunchtime (Thursday).
It’s understood around 40 local staff members have been put at risk of redundancy, and given a 31-day notice period. Others will be offered alternative roles elsewhere in the company.
Liz Earle has a production factory in Cowes and a retail outlet on Union Street, Ryde – both of which are safe from closure.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Liz Earle has told Island Echo:
“Following a recent review, we have made the decision to relocate some of our Liz Earle Beauty operations and close our Ryde-based office and warehouse.
”As a business we are committed to operating an agile and effective organisation and delivering the best customer experience. This was not an easy decision to make but was taken to support this commitment and ensure long-term, sustainable growth for Liz Earle Beauty which remains a valuable part of our portfolio.
“The large majority of affected team members will move to work from one of our other Isle of Wight sites. This will allow our teams to work more closely, creating greater connection and collaboration in our ways of working.
“Our other Isle of Wight sites remain fully operational, and we are committed to supporting our teams throughout this process.”
It was in 2019 that Liz Earle made 13 Isle of Wight staff redundant, as reported by Island Echo.
Today’s news comes amid a flurry of blows to the local economy in recent weeks. In December, it was announced 300 jobs were to be lost at Vestas and on Boxing Day it was revealed Wyld in Newport had closed with immediate effect. Furthermore, Hovertravel has cut 17 staff roles and reduced both its morning and evening services, and Snows Isle of Wight closed its doors yesterday due to economic circumstances.
Kingswood in Bembridge closed with immediate effect last month as a result of its parent company, Inspiring Learning Group, being placed into administration.

Nothing to do with Labour. This had been on the cards for over a year.
yeah cause the staff have all the products given to them each month which 90% sell off
Perk of the job coming to an end.
But the recent Labour budget was the final
nail in the coffin
Doesn’t surprise me, who is next!
That is what Labour’s budget is doing to Businesses.
Perfect location for an Aldi or Lidl
This has been on the cards for over a year. We’ve all been waiting for it to actually happen.
Nothing to do with Labour. Everything to do with the takeover in 2015 plus some fallout from COVID and Brexit.
