More than 30 women have taken part in free self-defence training sessions organised by an Isle of Wight security company, with organisers now encouraging more people to get involved before the course comes to an end.
Executive Command, an Isle of Wight-based private security company, has been running a 5-week ladies’ self-defence course at Wootton Community Centre, offering practical training designed to help women protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
The course has now completed its 3rd week, with 2 sessions remaining. However, organisers say many people have only recently discovered the sessions are taking place and are keen to spread the word.
Unlike traditional martial arts classes, the training focuses on real-world self-protection, including recognising potential threats, avoiding dangerous situations and learning practical techniques that can be used under pressure.
The sessions are delivered by specialist trainers with experience in self-protection, combining practical skills with an understanding of the law surrounding self-defence.
Organisers say the course also addresses real-life threats being encountered on the Isle of Wight, helping participants become more aware of potential risks and how best to respond.
Despite attracting more than 30 participants so far, Executive Command hopes to reach even more women who could benefit from the free training.
Those who have missed the first 3 weeks are still welcome to join the remaining sessions, with no charge to attend.
The company has also indicated that it may extend the training or organise another course during November or December if there is sufficient interest.
Sessions take place every Monday from 18:00 until approximately 19:15 at Wootton Community Centre on Brannon Way, opposite the council car park.
Anyone interested in attending the remaining sessions is encouraged to contact Executive Command directly to confirm their free place.
