Live music events and performances are on their way to a popular seaside eatery in Sandown.
The team at The Bandstand has recently installed a performance stage that will allow a variety of musical events to be held throughout the year.
A driving force behind this latest edition, Earl Carpenter – The Bandstand’s latest stakeholder and a well-known name in London’s West End- says he is proud to support The Bandstand in its continued growth. Earl, who starred in The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, even painted the entire venue himself.
Located on Culver Parade, it was back in March that the team at Yarmouth’s Off the Rails were revealed as the new owners of the premises.
On the plans, Earl has said:
“The Bandstand holds a rich history on the Isle of Wight, and with this new stage, it will now be able to host a variety of live performances, bringing a dynamic blend of local talent alongside stars from the West End and Broadway.
“I’ll be taking the stage myself for our festive show Bah Humbug! A Reluctant Show Tune Spectacle this December, as part of our transformation celebration, starting with its 100th anniversary in November and continuing through to the New Year.”
The building was originally built around 1910 but had sadly fallen into disrepair after a café in the downstairs section closed in the mid-1970s. The site was purchased from the Isle of Wight Council in 2013 before undergoing a major renovation, opening to customers for the first time in April 2015.
