Due to the absence of an essential crew member on their Portsmouth-Fishbourne car ferry service on Saturday (27th July), Wightlink will be operating a revised timetable. All affected customers have been contacted and moved to alternative sailings. A Wightlink spokesperson has said:
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this action will cause but we have been unable to source short notice cover for the absent members of staff and so have taken this action as a last resort.”

Truly pathetic. They used to use covid as the excuse, there is no hiding now.
Should be ashamed of yourself Wightlink AND Red Funnel, because between you the service you are offering is unreliable, expensive, and shambolic, with a bit of poor leadership and poor planning thrown in for good measure! Joke, these two clown companies need to be regulated, as just because they have the monopoly and captive audience, they think they can do whatever they want
The collateral damage to the tourist industry is potentially massive. People already know it is expensive to cross the Solent. Add unreliability to the mix and holiday makers will vote with their feet.
And what would regulation do? It won’t stop all the delays & cancellations, especially ones caused by the weather. Also, you can’t single out the IW ferries, you would have to regulate every ferry company in the UK & the government will never do that. The only beneficial thing to do is build a fixed link
Probably the one who does the toast!
Or the Toilet cleaner.
Wait for it, who’s going to be the first to offer a conspiracy theory on this one? What will it be this time? Illegal immigration, the Labour Government or the new favourite.. A grand scheme to stop us travelling?
Strange you should condense it into quite believable facts…
Let’s hope between the 2 new MPs they can do something
about these shower of shite Ferry Companies.
Enough is enough
I understood they had already sought a meeting with the Secretary of State
Fat chance of that happening, the problem is now too deep rooted.
Any of our new island MP’s care to comment?
Why do they not say what position the vital crew memeber holds. Also could they run a ship with less capacity if they are just one crew less, or does the MCA say no.
Unbelievable excuse. Total incompetence.
Time to start employing migrants, more reliable than
the Numpty workforce Wightlink currently employ.
Quigley and Robertson can put this recommendation forward.
Us Caulkheads need a reliable service, not a now and then
service.
Wightlink Joke service providers.. why give them any business Too unreliable these days
It looks as if the various companies have got together to draw up a rota to take it in turns to cause daily problems, whilst still charging a fortune when they are running.
They certainly share the 1000 volume book of lies and excuses
Richard Quigley this is beyond a joke now wish you had kept your mouth shut
East wight MP so this would be Joe Robertson, but your deluded mind won’t shift from blaming Labour. Get over the fact that the tories effectively killed their own party
This is just out order, it’s more than 36hrs off, Wightlink could of brought over from it’s company in Australia. I can’t remember when all services affected and floating bridge in same week.
Be interesting to know who this crew member is Wightlink??
Teaboy, the most VIP in any company
I heard it’s down to the man who makes the coffee for the chap who makes the teas, that’s why we can’t get the ferry!
Well as today is Thursday…..
Perhaps the bog cleaner is on a stag night Friday!
that is about a silly as this sounds. How can they know they are short of an essential staff member in advance?
Why is this news ? This is the norm now. Anybody keeping count ?
Couldn’t organise a p*** up in a brewery comes to mind, let alone run a ferry service.!!!
Split Condoms are more effective than these
Ferry Companies.
It is not a ‘revised timetable ‘; it is failing to run to THE timetable. Get rid of the accountants, who couldn’t run the proverbial in a brewery and employ someone who has experience of working in a ferry company over 30 years, working their way up from the bottom.
Means that although ferries are cancelled, by giving a revised time table they can claim 100% reliability.
They couldn’t even get that right
Amazing that at what you would think would be the busiest time of year for travel they manage to offer everyone an alternative sailing. That tells me its a cost cutting exercise yet again.
Is there some book of excuses WL and RF share? I wonder if, some day, they might – just for the novelty value – try running a RELIABLE and AFFORDABLE ferry service.
Yes, it runs to 1000 volumes atm each volume just fits into a shipping container
It should be news when they have enough staff and boats to run to timetables.
Sack the majority of them
A.I could do a better job.
I was not happy with the timetable change but having done that they couldn’t even run the ones they did run on time, what was the reason for the one hour delay all day
